I’m finding that it is possible to download some great software tools to help improve my efficiency at work and at home. Some are free and some aren’t. In particular I am thinking about the importance of antivirus software for my computer.

I’ve had the occasional virus over the years, and it can totally ruin hundreds of files and cause very significant losses. Even the more benign viruses can slow you down. So I’ve determined to make sure I always have updated antivirus protection on all my computers.

The thing is, there are a number of good free programs you can download to obtain solid virus protection. I’ve come to learn that the free software does the trick, but I need to also install additional software to protect against trojan horses and adware.

Although usually not as dangerous as a true virus attack, your computer can get really slow if there are thousands of cookies and other gremlins interfering with its operation. The free antivirus software will likely not protect as well against all the internet marauders; so it might be best (and fastest) to buy a modestly priced package like Avast! or Norton.

Finally, as the business world leans towards a paperless environment, there is the need to be able to consolidate and organize all types of files from hundreds of software applications. We’ll likely find more and more the need to convert spreadsheets, text files and photographs to pdf format.

Of course, Adobe is the Big Dog in this field, with a number of other players as well. Adobe Acrobat is probably the best-known software package and there are a few choices of exactly which product in that family you choose. If your needs are very basic, you might be able to get away with the free Adobe Reader. That is pretty limiting though, and I’ve found that I need something that will let me work with the files rather than just read, save, send and print them.

Whichever file management software you select, you’ll find that there are significant time savings in being able to quickly work with pdf files. I suspect this is only going to become more prevalent in the future.

That’s when I discovered old time radio. I happened to be searching online and came across it. I don’t remember exactly what led me to it, but I’m so glad I found it.

My discovery led to some great old shows like The Shadow, Abbot and Costello, Lights Out, Campbell’s Theater. Very cool stuff. My drive to and from work for the day suddenly became a highlight instead of a chore.

Trade shows are always a great task to complete successfully; there are always some unforeseen troubles that you may be able to minimize.   Experience goes a long way and is worth its weight in gold in the trade show industry.  Coordination is the key to having a successful trade show or event.  Here are some of the most common problems that can occur at trade shows.

2-One of the most common problem that can cost you a great deal is not having your electrical laid when you arrive to set up your trade show exhibit.   Time is money and if you have a large exhibit booth which uses union service to set up, you will have to wait until your electrician lay the floor electrical.  Your set up worker gets paid by the hour, this is costing you a great deal and of course the electricians have no responsibility to you or the labor. You are stuck having to wait and to pay for unused labor. That’s money for wasted time.

 3-Missing  shipment of items on the show floor can also be very costly. This is a lot more common than anyone thinks. Most of the time the cause for this is mislabeled exhibit components.  This can be a total disaster leaving you the exhibitor trying to figure out what to do about your trade show booth.   Having to find your trade show booth or lost crate can be frustrating and can be a nightmare.  You either have to have the freight department try to find your booth which can take hours if not days. If you mislabeled that particular item you will have to pay for the hours it takes to find your items.

 Things happen at trade shows but there is good news; these  occurrence can be minimized if not eliminated with an experienced exhibit coordinator or exhibit house.   There are unpredicted items that can happen.
